Gwen nodded at his answer, agreeing wholeheartedly. But her expression sobered again and she gestured Owen to follow a little ways away from the door; the doc knew just how sharp raptor hearing was.
"Owen," Gwen began, looking up at him seriously. "The fetus in Blue is nearly at week four, and in only six days." Her eyes went dark as she added, "...it already has a heartbeat. There's no way in hell I can figure out what enhancements they used, she's metabolized them already." She squinted thoughtfully, running calculations over in her head.
"I think I can use drugs to slow her hemorrhaging but other than surgery to actually repair the vein wall--which is a low chance of success even in a healthy human--that's going to have to heal itself." Then Gwen paused, running her hands over her face before looking back at Owen.
"You're going to have to decide whether or not to abort the fetus. Even with its accelerated growth rate, we weren't able to obtain a viable enough blood sample to ascertain the other parent. We would have to run DNA after it was further along, which poses its own set of problems. The longer we wait, the greater the danger might become, particularly if this is Omega's offspring." Raptor babies tended to claw their way out, regardless of their incubation medium.
Then her voice lowered to a hushed whisper, and her eyes grew fierce. "Tell me you dealt with the sonofabitch that raped her, Owen. Tell me that." In truth, Gwen really didn't want to know just which asshole had committed such an atrocity, but for medical reasons, she needed to know. "...I'm assuming he was human, are there any specific issues I should know otherwise?"
