A year ago, Owen would never have risked being alone with Omega when tensions were so high. The male raptor is streaked with dirt and blood and pale beneath it, his eyes wide and sharp, and more than once Owen noticed him reflexively curling his claws as if he wanted to sink them into something. But the male raptor had followed Gwen without so much as a snarl, and had let them take Blue from him, although being shut out of the examination room brought the first recognizable flash into his eyes, but reason prevailed again. He'd withdrawn to the shortest distance Gwen had permitted.
Owen can't help noticing all of this, even now. It just has Blue written all over it.
Besides, he can certainly appreciate what Omega is feeling. He's running on autopilot himself, only one real thought sticking in his brain, and that's what is going to happen to his beta. Owen has seen bad. He's seen the boys' files, too, and he has a better grasp of InGen's methods than he wishes he did. But none of them know exactly what happened to Blue out there, at least not until she wakes up to tell them. And when Gwen comes back out and gives Owen some fresh information, he nearly shuts down altogether as his mind attempts to reconcile the reality around him with things she could not possibly have just fucking said.
"She's what?"
Is that his voice? Who's speaking? He's not actually hearing this. He's somewhere back on the island, still, or maybe he fell asleep on the way to find Blue -- no, they did find her, and she's --
"What did you--" He's suddenly raising his voice, and he has to catch himself fast, dropping it immediately to a whisper, staring at Gwen with growing horror. All of a sudden he has a thousand questions, all of them twisted up in fury and anguish and disbelief, and -- god, he can't even pick one place to start. "Are you sure?"
Then he clenches his teeth, his eyes going harder. "...Gwen, tell me you can find out who did it."
